I recently found myself needing a more bleeding-edge cloud server than the Fedora 14 servers I have been running on Rackspace Cloud. Rackspace is not yet offering a Fedora 15 image for new servers, so I needed to start with a Fedora 14 system and upgrade it. I also needed the kernel to be more current than the 126.96.36.199 kernel Rackspace currently uses with Fedora images, and I am not sure the upgraded userspace would work with that kernel and init image pair anyway.
I have really enjoyed my role as an administrator for Fedora's participation in Google's Summer of Code. It has been a very rewarding experience and I have been both grateful for and proud of all of the mentors and students that have participated. Karsten Wade has been extremely helpful as a fellow administrator and has really helped Fedora's participation succeed.
The efforts of Fedora's Summer Coding SIG and our umbrella "Red Hat Summer" effort got a small setback today. After 5 years of successful participation in the Google Summer of Code program, we were not accepted into this year's Summer of Code.
